Eva Paredes is a painter born in Mexico and based in Scotland. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2025.

Making use of dream journals, embroidery and painting, her work translates Mexican folk culture, religious and pagan beliefs into images mapping the artist's own cosmology of the afterlife. Operating as an illustrated book of spirits, her work moves between purgatory, heaven, and the seven rings of hell, positing a continuity between this realm and the subconscious mind.

This body of work constitutes an ongoing attempt to construct a personal belief system, drawn from Mexican paganism, black magic, and spiritism. This research is grounded in specific sources, including the spiritist writings of Allan Kardec, the practice of tarot reading, and Mexican folk horror narratives and leyendas, alongside magic rituals held within oral tradition. Following the death of the artist's father, painting has become a means of honouring his passing — an attempt to imagine and render his whereabouts in the otherworld.

Paredes's paintings have been exhibited in galleries across Mexico and Scotland, where they have been praised for their emotional depth and technical unconventionality.
